Zulu-lulu founder Trayci Tompkins has been hand-building clay pots for over 15 years. Working without the help of a potter’s wheel, her work is slowly hand-built into shape with coils of clay, then paddled, scraped and buffed into shape ready for the first firing.

Her fascination for unearthed treasures has led Trayci from childhood diggings in the shale rocks of the Transkei coast in South Africa to the Aztec ruins in the remote jungles of Tikal in Guatemala.

Intrigued by fire and flames and the resulting effects on the clay surface, led her to the ancient art of Raku and the more traditional African pit-firing techniques.

Each vessel carries its own signature and personality as a result of the random firing methods, ensuring that no piece is ever the same.

Collected by lovers of beautiful things, Trayci’s work graces the homes and offices of special people all over the world.

Each vessel or sculpture piece is individually marked and documented making each piece an item to treasure.
